Wood Finish stains are ideal for interior use, unfinished furniture, antique furniture, and wood floors. Before staining, test stain color to make sure it is your desired color. Make sure to stir the stain to bring the pigments from the bottom and to keep the stain color evenly distributed. The final stain color will be determined by how much stain is soaked into the wood. The longer the stain remains on the wood, the darker the color will be. After a few minutes, test an area for color by wiping the stained area with a rag. If you would like for the stain color to be darker, reapply the stain. After the stain is dry, apply Minwax clear finish top coat.
Gel stains are ideal for working on vertical surfaces. Minwax Gel Stain is an oil-based stain. Apply Minwax Gel Stain with a brush or a rag. Gel stains tend to dry faster than regular oil-based stain. Reapply the stain to your desired color. After the stain is dry, apply a clear protective top coat.
Water-based stains are great for easy clean-up and dry quickly. Minwax Water-based Stain is available in a variety of stain colors. Before applying stain, treat wood with Minwax Water Based Pre-Stain Wood Conditioner. Work stain down into the wood and allow to soak in. After about three minutes' time, wipe wood in the direction of the grain with a rag to remove excess stain. Because the stain dries quickly, work on small areas at a time.
